The Big Kahuna Bar and Restaurant is the in-house restaurant of Kahuna Beach Resort & Spa, a beach-front property located in Urbiztondo Beach in San Juan town, a famous surfing destination in the province of La Union, Philippines.
We visited La Union to celebrate my 33rd birthday. We arrived in San Juan around lunch time so we decided to look for a beach-front restaurant that serves a rather upscale dining experience. And so we found The Big Kahuna Bar and Restaurant.
Edgar wanted pancit so we ordered Bihon Guisado. It was a big serving that can be shared by 2-3 persons. It was generously cooked with pork, chicken and shrimps, as well as a variety of vegetables. It had a rich, savory broth which is best paired with bread or even rice.
Since we were on a beach, I wanted seafood. I ordered Grilled Squid stuffed with tomatoes and onions. It was served with garlic rice and a soy dip on the side. It was perfectly grilled, just the right texture. It was easy on the bite and tasted fresh. I paired this dish with some of the bihon guisado.
Edgar ordered the Kahuna Chicken Kebab. Fillets of chicken as well as onions and red bellpeppers are grilled on skewers and are then served with garlic rice and buttered vegetabes. The chicken are perfectly seasoned, grilled until tender and moist. The vegetables are very fresh as they were still crunchy and had a sweet taste.
With a view of the vast South China Sea and food that is both filling and comforting, it was a birthday lunch celebration well spent here at Kahuna Beach Resort & Spa. We will definitely dine here again on our next visit to San Juan perhaps during dinnertime so that we can also try some of their drinks.
