Vikings SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City

Vikings Luxury Buffet, the Philippines' largest buffet restaurant, opened in March 2014 its fifth branch located on the fourth floor of SM Megamall's premier dining destination, the Mega Fashion Hall.

Vikings SM Megamall features art museum inspired interiors with framed art works mounted on the walls and abstract patterns printed on the ceiling. The use of bold colors give a modern and vibrant feel inside the vast dining space while the liberal use of geometric shapes gives a more fun touch in the overall design of the interior. We love the unconventional arrangement of long dining tables making sure that every inch of space is utilized without making the area feel too crowded. The warm lighting and the interior pieces add to the already elegant yet cozy ambiance.

Vikings SM Megamall boasts of 200+ dishes served everyday on its buffet tables which are then clustered into sections. Most of the dishes get changed everyday so you can't expect the same buffet spread every day. This makes your every visit at Vikings a unique one. Here's a quick introduction on every food section.

Appetizers Section

This section will definitely overwhelm you with the number of food choices. There's an assortmet of gourmet cheeses and cold cuts to start with. The cheeses remind us of the Malagos cheeses we had at Vikings SM Lanang Davao. Another table has several salad dishes, while another table has a variety of tapas. This is just the appetizer so don't get yourself too full yet because there's really more to come.

Carving Section

It's the section with the longest line. There's roasted beef, chicken, pork and turkey with your choice of sauce. Best sellers are the Angus Chuckeye Roll, the Prime Rib Eye and the Texas Beef Brisket. We Filipinos really love steaks don't we?

Pasta, Breads & Pizza Section

What we fondly call as the carbs section, here guests can feast on their favorite pasta and pizza dish, as well as a variety of freshly baked breads of different shapes, colors, textures and flavors. Vikings SM Megamall even elevates the dining experience to the next level through the make-your-own pasta and pizza concept. Basically, you can customize your pasta and pizza with your personal choice of ingredients, and the staff will cook them right in front of you, and based on your specifications. If you're not kitchen savvy, don't worry. Just tell the staff that you want a carbonara, putanesca or vongole, and they can prepare one for you.

Asian Section

The Asian section is not complete without shabu-shabu, malatang and dim sum, and Viking SM Magamall's Asian Section has all three. You can start with shabu-shabu by choosing your ingredients and sauce. A Shabu-shabu set will then be set-up on your dining table. The shabu-shabu experience is ideal for those who wish to have more bonding moments with their loved ones or friends. If you want more straighforward Chinese food, you can try the malatang skewers cooked in a broth. If you love dim sum, we're sure that you will keep coming back to the Asian Section.

Japanese Section

This section has got to be my personal favorite. Vikings SM Megamall uses the freshest and highest quality tuna and salmon in their sushi and sashimi. I stood there and had myself entertained by just watching the kitchen staff slice fresh salmon sashimi with their ultra sharp knives and meticulously assemble sushis and makis. Not on the photos are the ramen, tempura and tonkatsu which we would love to try on our next visit to Vikings.

Grilling Station

There's literally a bounty of seafood in this section! There's whole fish, filleted fish meat, squid and shellfishes. But if you're not into seafood, there's also marinated beef, pork and chicken available for grilling. When your food is ready, they will be served right at your dinner table. Watch for the baked oysters! They cook several batches of it, but you have to be quick as a batch of baked oysters can be gone in less than a minute.

Main Dishes Section

Dishes in this section regularly changes. One day you can see Middle Eastern or Moroccan inspired dishes, the next day they will serve perhaps Mediterranean or Tex-Mex dishes. About four to eight Filipino dishes are also served everyday. Here are some samples:

Beverage and Desert Sections

Bottomless beverage include cold juices, iced tea and lemonade. There's also bottomless soda and beer (yes, beer!). If you feel like having hot beverage, there's brewed coffee and tea for you. Don't forget to make some room for desert because at Vikings SM Megamall, they have lots and lots of them. You can choose among their cakes, fresh fruits, local kakanin and iced cream. You can also have a crepe made or mix your own halo-halo.

Buffet Plates

Here's what we had at Vikings SM Megamall. As you can see, we skipped the appetizers, not because we don't find them appetizing, they really are, but we are just making sure we have enough space for the main dishes. When we were in Vikings SM Lanang Davao, we learned that it is impossible (at least for us) to sample all the food choices. So again, we focused on dishes that appealed to us the most.
