We have visited different parts of the Philippines but we have to admit that we haven't really explored much of our capital city, Manila. Years of traveling around the country rendered us practically unfamiliar with our own home city. So this year, we decided to see more of Manila and planned a rediscovery tour of Binondo with the help of our new
10-inch Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2.

Out of the Box: Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2, USB Cable, AC Wall Adapter |
Let us first introduce you to our new travel buddy. The Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is a new multi-mode tablet designed by Lenovo to fit the modern lifestyle of today's travelers. Its thin design, powerful processor and vivid display kept us entertained while on the go and allowed us to stay connected while on vacation.

It's ultra lightweight and slim and fits perfectly in a backpack, perfect for those who prefer to travel light. It runs on 3 cell 9600mAH Li-Ion Cylindrical giving it up to 18 hours of battery life, depending on usage, making the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 not only portable but also long lasting. Here are more of the cool features of the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2.

|
Four Multi-Modes |
Another cool feature of the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 is the ability to use the device in four different modes, the Hold, Tilt, Stand and Hang modes. During our rediscovery tour in Binondo, we were able to do actual tests on these four amazing user modes.
|
Binondo Church |
It was a hot sunny summer morning when we arrived in Binondo, and the first thing we noticed was the new facade of the church. After taking some photos from the park, we entered the church and took more photos of the interior. From Binondo Church, we then continued our tour to Ongpin Street.
|
Using Google Maps to Navigate the Streets of Binondo |
To help us better navigate the streets of Binondo, we used Google Maps on our Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 on
Hold-mode. The cylindrical casing of the batteries ergonomically fitted the hand while holding the device in a portrait position. What we also enjoyed about the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 was the screen's performance in the outdoors wherein the HD display gave us vivid details on the screen, despite the strong daylight.
We finally reached our first stop. Wai Ying is a restaurant located along Benavides Street famous for its dumplings. Edgar tested our Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 with our third-party lens camera. After installing the camera application on the tablet, the lens camera connected to the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 via WiFi allowing it full control of the camera. The HD display on the screen allowed Edgar to accurately set the camera manually for better image color and focus.
We also installed photo editing applications to the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 which allowed us to make minor edits to the photo and add watermark to it. The above photo is a sample output. This set up perfectly fit our lifestyle as it allowed us to share high quality photos instantly on our social media sites.

Still on Hold mode, we searched online for the food menu of the next restaurant we visited that day. Fortunately, zomato.com has a copy of Lan Chou La Mien's menu on its site. The above photo is an actual screenshot from the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2. After choosing which noodle dishes we would have, we then transferred from Wai Ying to Lan Chou La Mien. As soon as we were seated, we immediately placed our order at this restaurant famous for its hand-pulled noodle dishes.
|
Lan Chou La Mien |
Already full from our quick food adventure in Binondo, we boarded a taxi that brought us to Pan Pacific Manila, a hotel located in Ermita, Manila, where we stayed for a night and tested the other modes of the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2.
|
Lobby at the Pan Pacific Manila |
After the quick check-in procedure at the hotel, we were assisted by the hotel staff to our Deluxe Suite located on the 16th floor of the building. Being out the whole day, it was finally time to respond to emails and blog comments that accumulated in our inbox. Using our Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 on
Tilt-Mode perfectly met our requirement to accomplish this task. To make it easier for me to compose replies to emails, I connected the tablet to our third-party Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. It was like using a 10-inch laptop, only it was thinner and lighter.
|
Composing Text on Tilt-Mode |
After I was done with our emails, Edgar then tested the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 in Stand-Mode as a gaming device. We installed a couple of games on the tablet and connected the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 to a third-party game pad via Bluetooth. Combined with the full HD display of the screen plus the Dolby Digital quality of the sound, the Lenono Yoga Tablet 2 is an excellent gadget that can keep you entertained during idle hours or during long land travels. The superb Intel processor also performed quite well with video games.
|
Video Gaming on Stand-Mode |
We also tested Pan Pacific's high speed WiFi internet connection available in all hotel rooms and suites. Edgar called a friend of ours based in the US into a video conference call. The Stand-Mode allowed Edgar to place the tablet on a table comfortably video chat with our friend. Thanks to the hotel's highspeed Internet which ensured an uninterrupted video conferencing experience.
|
Video Conferencing on Stand-Mode |
After dinner, Edgar decided to take a bath and use our Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 on
Hang-Mode to watch a movie while relaxing in the tub. Edgar improvised by inserting a hanger hook into the kickstand's hang hole, and hanging the hanger on to the metal bar of the towel rack.
|
Watching a Movie on Hang-Mode |
The wide 10-inch full HD display kept the images on the screen very vivid even viewed from afar. The Dolby Digital quality of the sounds made the movie viewing experience unique because of the three dimensional sound effects from the speakers.
Overall, we are very satisfied with our new Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 and will definitely bring it in all our travels around the Philippines. In summary here's what we liked about the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2:
- the design is ultra thin and light, perfectly fits inside a backpack without making it too bulky or heavy
- the amazing 18 hour battery life allows us to keep using the device the whole day without having to recharge it in between
- the full HD display and the Dolby Digital sound quality
- it has both LTE and WiFi connectivity
- 32GB storage with Micro SD card expandable memory slot
- you can use the tablet to charge a mobile phone via the Micro USB port
- the ability to connect the device to other third party accessories to maximize its functionalities
