G1 Lodge (G1客栈) is a newly opened creative design boutique hotel located in the city center of Baguio City, right at the corner of Leonard Wood Road and Upper Session Road. A concept of 90 Design Studio, the property was awarded Best Urban Hotel in the recent Kohler Bold Design Awards Philippines. Living up to the title of Baguio City as a UNESCO Creative City, the property employed design techniques that combine aesthetics and functionality, while integrating elements of Cordilleran environment and culture.
Most noticeable features are the pine wood ceiling at the lobby which imitates the mountainous terrain of Baguio City. Furniture pieces are made of torched pine wood while metal art pieces are displayed in the common areas to showcase the local talent in metal sculpture. The property also applied eco-friendly design elements such as the use of repurposed wood for the stairs and recycled scrap glasses as feature wall for the front office.
G1 Lodge has a total of 30 guestrooms which are divided into five room designs which cater to different sizes of occupants. The designers also veered away from the usual rectangular shape of the room. Inspired by the Japanese art of origami, the rooms are laid-out in irregular geometric shapes. No two rooms are designed alike.

► FEATURED GUESTROOM: SWAN ROOM
During our weekend trip to Baguio City, we stayed in one of the Swan Rooms of G1 Lodge. Our room was particularly located on the 8th floor of the building and is facing the east. Our room has a small balcony with a view of the mountains. There is an electronic safe under the bed which is big enough to store a laptop.
There is a long table on one side of the bed with ample power outlets where we could charge our phones, camera and laptop. There was enough space on the table to place other personal items. The added chair makes this table a comfortable work space. The room is well air-conditioned and guests ca easily adjust the room temperature to a comfortable level.
The queen bed had a comfortable mattress and is covered with a topper and high thread count duvet cover. The pillows were generously stuffed and were comfortable to the neck. The room is equipped with a LED television with local and international cable and HD channels. It is also installed with Youtube so guests can easily stream their favorite youtube channels. Complimentary WiFi internet is also available inside the room.
The Swan Room has a private bathroom with a separate walk-in shower, a single basin and a toilet with bidet. Water pressure was consistently strong and water temperature was easy to regulate. It only takes a few seconds for hot water to flow from the shower and faucet. Shampoo and shower gel are provided in dispensers installed in the walk-in shower. Dental kits are also provided.
► FEATURED RESTAURANT: RAINCOAT COFFEE
G1 Lodge has its own in-house cafe which serves a la carte meals, light snacks, cakes, Espresso-based drinks, tea, fruit juices and milkshakes. Located at the hotel's lobby level, Raincoat Coffee is slowly becoming popular among locals as a meeting place.
Raincoat Coffee serves some of the best tasting and full-bodied coffee and espresso drinks in Baguio City. They blend their own coffee beans mixing Arabica coffee beans sourced locally and internationally. Their coffee are professionally crafted by their baristas using espresso freshly brewed from their Slayer Espresso machine.
Raincoat Coffee as several seating areas that can cater to different groups, ranging for cozy sofas perfect for casual conversations, long tables for pop-up meetings to spacious dining tables for families and friends.
Guests staying at G1 Lodge also enjoy their complimentary breakfast served at Raincoat Coffee. From 7:00am to 10:00am, the second level of Raincoat Coffee is converted into a private dining area for hotel guests. During high occupancy, guests enjoy unlimited servings of Filipino breakfast items from a buffet spread. During low occupancy, guests can choose from a list of a la carte breakfast dishes.
I personally prefer the a la carte breakfast choices which include Beef Tapa, Daing Na Bangus, Corned Beef and Pancakes. Dishes are prepared a la minute, ensuring best quality and freshness of food and best enjoyed while still warm. I also love the presentation of the dishes which is very distinctive of Raincoat Coffee.
Overall, I loved our stay at G1 Lodge. Every corner of this boutique hotel is well designed. The rooms are smartly designed to maximize the limited space in the city center area of Baguio. The rooms have a view no matter which floor your room is located. No ugly views here.
The location is also one of the strengths of G1 Lodge. The bus terminals are just 5-10mins taxi away. Public transportation is easily available right at the hotel's doorstep. Session Road and Baguio Cathedral are just a few minutes walk away. SM City Baguio is also located just across the hotel.
