Bangued is the capital municipality and the center of government, commerce, and education of the Province of Abra, Philippines. Bangued is located on the western side of Abra and is divided by the Abra River. The poblacion (administrative center) is located on the southern bank of the river. Bangued was formally established on July 25, 1861, during the feast of its patron saint, Saint James the Great.
